ITEM OF THE WEEK: Wine Funnel

Sterling Silver Wine Funnel
London, 1807; £1495
What can you buy the wine lover who has everything? We recommend this useful, beautiful wine funnel, complete with its original modelling ring. To use it, simply clip a piece of muslin into the ring, pop it back into the holder, then slip the funnel into a decanter and pour your wine through. The muslin catches any sediment.
This is solid silver, dating back to the Georgian era. We love it because it’s so practical, and use similar pieces at home ourselves, if we’re decanting an old claret.
This one bears contemporary (to its manufacture) monograms. On one side it’s engraved WMS, and on the other, it says “From HAS to GF”. We could remove them for you, but why do that, since they add to its charm? Picture yourself savouring a vintage wine, contemplating the family that owned this piece originally. As you can see, this piece is not only ideal for a wine connoisseur, but for anyone with a storytelling bent, as well!
