Description
An antique late Victorian ring adorned with a trilogy of opal cabochon stones and four old, cushion cut diamonds nestled in-between.
The opals have a medley of blues, turquoises and greens with a burning orange glow. The piece is crafted in 18ct yellow gold and hallmarked London, 1895.
Old-cut diamonds are round diamonds primarily cut between 1860 to 1930. These antique diamonds have a special charm; crafted by hand, each stone reflects the skill and artistry of early diamond cutters who relied solely on their trained eyes, giving each diamond an individual character.
The stones are set in a beautiful scalloped gallery and the ring has intricately carved shoulders.
Opals have been desired throughout history for their enchanting rainbow of colours that flow across the surface of the stone.
In Victorian times the gemstone was representing hope, clarity and truth. Queen Victoria is thought to have gifted her daughters opal jewellery at their wedding because of the stone’s meaning.
Opal has the potential to display just about every colour, its classic, striking and the perfect addition to any jewellery collection.
