Description
A sterling silver mounted antique claret jug of cylindrical bulbous form. The handle is of scrolling acanthus leaf design connected to the sterling silver mount which is embossed with hanging fruit and the head of pan.The spout is embossed with a gargoyle head. The hallmarked hinged dome lid is embossed with fruit and the heads of a bearded imp with a finial in the form of a lion rampant holding a shield, the shield being engraved with a walking goat.
The silver mount has been gilded in 18ct gold which has rubbed through in places. The gilding is contemporary with the item.This can be removed if requested. Quote upon request.
